This is a somewhat tongue-in-cheek blog, and this is just some spitballing intuitions on the topic.

This is not supposed to come off as a complete battle of the banal versus the banal, but that might not be far from the effect. Let's see if this post can deliver something meaningful.

The Fermi paradox remains interesting because of the thoughts and ideas that it is associated with. These ideas will continue to provoke, despite its paradox not persisting to today.

Of course as paradoxes go, they "want" to dissolve themselves . . . just as long as it is the relevant thoughts and/or discoveries that get applied.

An Obvious Take on FOSS Funding

The idea of trying to create institutions that are not corrupt, and who have the right priorities does not require any particularly ingenious skill - just people with a clue, who also have the willpower. 

That simple thing for FOSS will be what people call cult behavior. But it's just what all institutions with particular interests do - look out for their interests. For FOSS, that includes a much stronger focus on funding smart infrastructure chains and pathways. - Looking for logical gaps in applications and tools, and trying to fill them in.

In the case of FOSS, there is not a singular institutional form (as in non-profit, for-profit). If for-profits can do it, then more power to them. If non-profits can do it, then more power to them.

If development community can be see a mutual benefit to contribution, then more power to them for building the same things that the FOSS institutions are building: even the for-profits.

A Viewpoint on Secular Atheist Community

Somebody should really get on the secular community deal especially if there's not too much aggression towards it. The brights idea seemed a little weird, but then again I don't remember very many details about it. But primarily the idea is to shield it from being showy, loud, and ridiculous - something that most "things" in today's world have not managed to avoid. Keep it real and based.

Present Take on Feminism

Until recently, I had not rejected feminism. It was waiting on the back burner whilst I merely assumed that if I could be one then naturally I should. I could have found a particular version of it that I could make consistent with all of my beliefs and desired behavior to the extent that I would not think myself a hypocrite. Perhaps I could have even been accepted as a card carrying member, lavishing in all of its perks. But though it might have been possible, I no longer see the point.

That just about sums it up. Maybe more on it later.

I am not wholly against labels. Right now, I identify as a

• Secular Humanist (though I have my own idea of it)
• Techno-Progressive
• Atheist

I classify myself as a "techno progressive".

This basically means that I think technology is highly underrated in considerations for social progress.

Call it Transculturalism

Transculturalism

Understanding transculturalism is to understand culture's naturalistic origin (or at least to understand it from a secular vantage point), but it also means an understanding of the inherent value of culture itself to human individuals.  Every progressive advance in society comes with alterations, adaptations, innovations of culture whether around economic equality, women's rights, racial equality, or sexual identity.

Understanding transculturalism is the key to returning civility to public discourse by providing a way of describing similarities and differences in an adaptive and yet considerate way.

(This is a term that I have come up with to hold until I learn a better one. I took it from 'transhumanism'.)

The transhumanist paradox is that inasmuch as transhumanism can work to redefine humanity into something new, that the new resultant nature and desires can just as easily contradict the original definition of transhumanism.

Transhumanism

I have a love/hate relationship with transhumanism.  On one hand, it seems terribly naive and immature. On the other hand, it addresses some very appealing notions about the future of humanity. Overall, it seems to be much more of a large scale, long game, out of the reach of common man to control - rather than something that can be reasonably turned into a political party or much of a religion in its current state.
