Techo Progressivism

Techno Progressivism

I classify myself as a "techno progressive".

This basically means that I think technology is highly underrated in considerations for social progress.

Technologies of lengthening lifespan and bioengineering are a lower priority to those that solve social problems: cheaper education and open knowledge, software for more convenient democracy, more efficient infrastructure, zero/negative carbon, safe nuclear energy, and water desalination.

Not Techno Consumerism

Techno consumerism is good, but it is in a different compartment of political mindfulness than techno progressivism. Consumerism is natural byproduct of what should be a free market. Of course it does include a lot of pointless gadgets that are sometimes, somehow even less necessary than VR headsets and tablet PCs.

Techno progressivism is more pointedly a conscience of technology's application for societal benefits.

A techno progressivist discussion around consumerism would concern itself with varied positions about indirect means of benefit and/or harms of specific technologies on society, as well as bleeding into difficult and political realms of taxation and economics.
