In the broadest sense, the purpose of Free GUI is to enhance an alternative method for developing and accomplishing graphical UI tasks on the desktop and other end-user devices, and to expand the potential of the new and unique positive trade-offs of such a system's capabilities and workflows.
There are numerous subsidiary and secondary purposes and/or positive side effects that can play into the design strategies of the system for this goal.
The Purpose is NOT:
Not to Address AI Development
There are so many aspects of when, where, why, and how to do, or to not do, AI development. Much in the same way that this is an alternative method of development to traditional applications, it is also somewhat different than the implementations of AI development that are said to exist at the time of this writing in late 2026.
Still, somewhat regardless of any given languages and techniques of Free GUI for development that might end up in some implementation of it, there would be nothing stopping these kinds of AI from being used to create Free GUI applications.
The issue of licensing for this idea is still up in the air, and there might be issues of AI usage for respective licenses. That could impact the use of AI for using any of the languages discussed.
It goes without saying: The issue of any individual project implementation of Free GUI, or some other tools that are inspired by Free GUI, might also end up placing hard or soft stipulations on AI usage.
The point is that the idea is primarily about what it can bring in its own right and in its own aspirations to realized advantages of new workflows of development and usage. These advantages are not at all intended for optimizing AI agent development, but about revolving around enhancing a certain kind of human engagement.
(Characterizing what this human engagement means, is perhaps what demands more explanation to really fill out the purpose of Free GUI.)
Not to Mandate Software Economics
Similar notions to the neutrality on AI exist with regard to some perceived gesture about a stance or mandate or a representation of how to economize software in general, or how a national or global economy should work as a whole.
There are cases to be made for how to make a lot of money using ideas similar to Free GUI's, even for fully proprietary contortions of the ideas. By contrast, there are also cases to make that implementations of Free GUI ideas could effectively intrude on the viability of monetizing traditional applications.
I recently wrote a post here about some ideas for a kind of low-key approach to monetization that exist for the sake of maintaining a functioning system of participation and improvement in a maximally liberating context.
It should be noted that this particular sense of "liberating" is not in and of itself even the same thing as what is meant by "freedom" in free software. The added sense of value on those liberties is a step beyond software freedom.
Both of these ideas about financing and a functioning system of participation are about one particular idea of how I would like to see things go for once in in some large project - to see something reach into some particular combination of functionality in the FLOSS world.
